WASHINGTON, D.C. (BRAIN) — In celebration of National Bike to Work Week, the League of American Bicyclists welcomes 34 new and renewingBicycle Friendly Businesses. They join 1,343 businesses in all 50 states and the District of Columbia that have earned BFB status.

“As we celebrate National Bike Month and Bike to Work Week, the League of American Bicyclists is excited to recognize a new class of businesses that are making their communities safer, happier, healthier and more sustainable through bicycling,” said Amelia Neptune, director of the Bicycle Friendly America program. “We’re thrilled that the Bicycle Friendly Business program has surpassed 2,000 applicants and that we now have BFBs in every state.”

Hawaii has gained its first BFB with the National Weather Service Honolulu and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center, which earned a bronze award. Miami’s Mack Cycle and Fitness won Florida’s first platinum award.

Many BFBs stand out for their creative ways of promoting biking to work. Mahlum Architects, a new bronze BFB in Portland, OR, has an employee commuter map, that “includes a bicycle icon at each employee addresses on the map, so people can see which colleagues who ride to work live near them and encourage a commuter buddy system.”
