Ride Report- ride with my son

My son and I took to the trails at Wannamaker County Park near North Charleston, SC.  My daughter and wife went to a “Max and Ruby Live” show at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, so we packed the bikes and rode for about two hours.

I took my noble steed, my Diamondback Sorrento, and Jesse has a Jamis Trail X 1 that I bought from work that was a rental.  The trail system is more of a maze of paved and improved surface trails through the wood.  We rode various combinations of all of them, making 8.5 miles of riding.  My biggest mistake was not switching tires, as I had on 1.5″ wide street tires, but could have used knobbies in some places. We had no crashes, mechanicals, nor punctures.

The park had many of the amenities as any other park might have: playgrounds, picnic shelters, meeting hall, volleyball pitches, a small lake, pedal boats rentals, snack bar, fishing, bike rentals (really?  Don’t go there.), a dog run, and open fields for games and sunbathing.  Being a Sunday afternoon, the park was bit crowded, but not over crowded and plenty of parking to still go around.

Jesse has become quite the cyclist.  Technical bits that would have scared him, causing him to stop or wreck, don’t phase him.  A few times he was pushing my abilities.  He loves that bike too.  He is the only kid with disc brakes in the neighborhood and it fits him well for now.  He will grow out of it within two years at the rate he grows.

    Hey jay,

Our next show will likely be commuter focused.  I believe Al has The Dooch lined up for that show and Ross is our uber commuter.

Regarding the bus driver…I think in today’s world, most people don’t want to get involved.  I’m not the least bit surprised about the inaction.  Not saying that’s okay, just that I’m not surprised.
